The Xuangong Hotel, funded by Shanghai Lianbao Company, designed by British architectural firm Jingming & Co., and constructed by Hanxiesheng Construction Firm and Zhengxinglong Construction Firm, was undoubtedly the most luxurious establishment of its era.
The Xuangong Hotel, encompassing approximately 8,000 square meters, comprises five above-ground floors and a basement level. Its architectural form was modeled after Shanghai's historic Yong'an Department Store, achieving a harmonious fusion of classical and modern aesthetics. The fifth-floor and rooftop pavilions feature Baroque-style columns, while rectangular are executed in sleek modern design with minimal ornamentation. The building's facade presents a dynamic interplay of circular and rectangular forms, balancing the weightiness of stone construction with a timeless appeal that remains contemporary.
The lower three floors housed 94 guest rooms equipped with imported Simmons mattresses, Mitsubishi window-type air conditioners, and Sanyo televisions - representing the pinnacle of luxury accommodations at that time. The upper floors were dedicated to entertainment venues, including a billiard hall, the Lingxiao Amusement Hall, and a cinema screening the latest Hollywood films.
