Home News Visa Train Discounts for Elderly with Permanent Residence
Starting from April 1st, on the basis of the existing "Railway Rewards" frequent traveler membership service, China State Railway Group Co., Ltd. will offer more generous point incentives to elderly frequent traveler members aged 60 or above who hold a Resident Identity Card, Mainland Travel Permit for Hong Kong and Macao Residents, Mainland Travel Permit for Taiwan Residents, Exit-entry Permit for Travelling to and from the Mainland for Hong Kong and Macao Residents, Exit-entry Permit for Travelling to and from Taiwan for Taiwan Residents, or Foreign Permanent Resident Identity Card. These points can be redeemed for train tickets.

At present, railway frequent traveler members can earn points 5 times the face value of the ticket price after purchasing a ticket and taking the train. These points can be used to redeem train tickets for themselves or designated transferees. When redeeming train tickets, 100 points can be used as 1 yuan RMB. The train tickets redeemed with points can be rescheduled once, with points being charged as the rescheduling fee. However, refunds and changes to the destination station are not allowed for such tickets.
Starting from April 1st, when frequent traveler members aged 60 or above take passenger trains (temporarily excluding tourist special trains and international trains), they will earn points 15 times the face value of the ticket price, which is equivalent to 3 times the points earned by ordinary frequent traveler members. In other words, if they spend 1,000 yuan on a train journey, they will receive 15,000 points as a reward, and these points can be redeemed to offset 150 yuan when purchasing train tickets.
How many steps are there to register as a railway member?
Elderly passengers who have not yet registered as "Railway Rewards" frequent traveler members need to apply for membership through the railway 12306 website, client (App), or at station membership windows in order to enjoy more point incentives.
Taking the 12306 mobile client as an example, click on "Railway Membership" at the bottom of the page to enter, then click "Activate Railway Rewards Membership" to access the registration page. At this point, your name and mobile phone number will appear automatically. You can complete the registration by filling in the relevant information as prompted. Additionally, you need to accumulate at least 10,000 points to redeem a train ticket, and the validity period of the points is 12 consecutive months.
